What is the Swiss Motorway Vignette or E-Vignette?
In Switzerland, every car, motorcycle, and trailer needs a motorway vignette to use the national motorways. It is available in two forms:
- The vignette is available as a sticker to fix to the vehicle’s windshield. This physical vignette is available at various places, such as post offices, service or petrol stations, customs offices, or other outlets.
- Since 2023, the vignette is available as an electronic version, called “e-vignette”. The e-vignette can be bought online at www.e-vignette.ch. The e-vignette is registered to a vehicle’s number plate.
In both cases, the vignette costs CHF 40 and is valid for the entire calendar year.
Not having a vignette while using motorways is punishable by fine, so it is essential for both residents and visitors driving in Switzerland.
