VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

What is a VIN, and where can I find it?

The VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, is a unique 17-character code assigned to every individual motor vehicle. It's used to track recalls, registrations, insurance coverage, and other administrative processes. The VIN can usually be found at the following places on a car:

  • On the driver side dashboard near the windscreen.
  • On the metal in the driver's side footwell.
  • On a sticker or metal plate on the driver’s side door.
  • On your registration document.
