What is an EV?
An EV, or Electric Vehicle, refers to a vehicle that is powered entirely or partially by electricity, distinguishing it from traditional vehicles that run on internal combustion engines fueled by petrol or diesel.
EVs encompass a range of technologies, but generally, EV refers to battery electric vehicles (BEVs) that operate solely on electric power stored in batteries, such as cars from the brands Tesla or Polestar.
Sometimes, EV will be used as a general term encompassing BEVs, but also plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that combine a battery-powered electric motor with an internal combustion engine, and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) that generate electricity from hydrogen to power an electric motor.
EVs are known for their energy efficiency, reduced emissions, and lower operating costs compared to conventional vehicles, contributing to the growing interest and investment in electric mobility as part of global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.
